Internet Reliability & WiFi
The town's internet infrastructure has improved massively, but power cuts are still a daily reality.
- Fiber Optic: Many guesthouses now have fast fiber connections (JioFiber or Airtel). Ensure you ask your host if their router is connected to an inverter/UPS. If not, the WiFi will drop every time the power cuts.
- Mobile Data Backup: You must have a local SIM card (Jio or Airtel) as a hotspot backup. 4G/5G coverage is generally excellent in the town center.
Working from Cafes
The Ramana Nagar area (near Sri Ramanasramam) is full of cafes catering to foreigners. Many offer vegan food, great coffee, and decent WiFi. However, they are meant for socializing and eating, not necessarily for taking 4-hour Zoom calls. Always ask the cafe owner if it's okay to work on your laptop for an extended period.
Long-Term Accommodation
If you plan to work remotely for 1-6 months, a standard hotel room will feel cramped.
- Look for service apartments or independent houses that offer a desk and a small kitchenette.
- Ensure the building has an inverter/generator backup so your work isn't interrupted by power outages.
