Karthigai Deepam is the crown jewel of Tiruvannamalai's spiritual calendar. Falling in the Tamil month of Karthigai (usually Nov/Dec), the festival culminates in the lighting of a massive cauldron of ghee at the very peak of Arunachala Hill—a flame that burns for days and can be seen for miles.

What to Expect

The town transforms during the 10-day festival. Over a million pilgrims descend upon Tiruvannamalai. The streets are packed, the energy is electric, and devotion is visible everywhere.
